From students
"It was just perfect!"
"This course was the most useful and educational course I have ever taken. What made it so effective was how it was planned. How it draws your mind to grasp the ideas being taught. For example the quadratic formula, you didn't just tell us like most other books would, you have us find it, as well as all of the other formulas as to understand how it works and why. Also, starting each section by having us try to solve problems to gear our minds to learn very effectively when you explain the problems that we are already familiar with and compare our own attempts and successes to your explanations and hints is an extremely effective teaching method (the best I've seen). My only suggestion is get more publicity so that more kids can be so well educated in math."
"I really liked this class! It was tough, challenging, and fun: exactly what I need! I learned much from this class, and I'd recommend it to others. AOPS rox!"
"This was a great class. I learned a lot of concepts that can help me for MATHCOUNTS and other math competitions."
Algebra 2 covers quadratic equations, graphing , complex numbers, graphing, functions, sequences and series, and exponents and logarithms. Problem solving skills are emphasized throughout, and time is devoted to advanced topics like telescoping sums and piecewise functions. (Note: This class is equivalent to the second half of the Introduction to Algebra course we used to offer.)
Week 1: Factorization
Week 2: Completing the square and the
quadratic formula
Week 3: Graphing quadratics
Week 4: Inequalities with quadratics and
beyond
Week 5: Functions Part 1
Week 6: Functions Part 2
Week 7: Graphing functions
Week 8: Extra Challenging Problem Day 1!
Week 9: Polynomials
Week 10: Exponents and logarithms
Week 11: Special functions Part 1
Week 12: Special functions Part 2
Week 13: Sequences and series Part 1
Week 14: Sequences and series Part 2
Week 15: Extra Challenging Problem Day 2!
Students are ready for this class if they have mastered square roots and fractional exponents, order of operations, linear equations and inequalities, ratio, and proportion. We recommend that students have experience with factoring quadratics prior to taking this course.
Please note: Our Algebra sequence will not likely match up exactly with your school's. We have named our courses so as to help new students decide which class to take. Most students who have completed an Algebra 1 class are ready for this course. Those who have completed a typical Prealgebra class but not an Algebra 1 class should consider taking our Algebra 1 course before taking our Algebra 2 course. Those who have completed a typical Algebra 2 class should consider taking our Algebra 3 course. We recommend trying the following tests to determine whether the class is appropriate for you:

This course requires the textbook Introduction to Algebra. There is a discount if you buy the text when registering for the course. This is the same text as the one used in our Algebra 1 course and in our old Introduction to Algebra course.
