Private Forum for Geometry Study
fossasor   230
Hi all,

I've recently been trying to improve my skill at competition math, but I consistently struggle with geometry. Since doing math is more fun and motivating with others, I've created the GeoPrepClub. This is a private forum to increase geometry skill and help others increase theirs: we'll have problems, marathons, and much more. This is similar to forums such as "AMC8 Prep Buddies" by PatTheKing, but is focused exclusively on this subject. We welcome all skill levels and hope those with greater mathematical knowledge can assist those lacking in it.

If this sounds interesting to you, sing up below and I'll let you know once I've added you. Although the forum may not have much now, that's because I've only just released it, and I hope once I build a community, It will be a very useful and motivating space for those interested in improving their geometry. The link is
here.

I look forward to seeing you all in the forum!

Scores on Contests for Ya'll to submit! (everyone be as honest as possible)
NEILDASEAL_12345   36
What are yall's most recent scores on mathCON, AMC 8 and other things? I just wanna know how I'm holding up and if my scores are good! This is the end of my first year in contest math, and I've always been gifted, but can someone tell me if these scores are good? MATHCON: 240
AMC 8: 19 QUESTIONS
AMC 10: 16 QUESTIONS
btw I'm going to 7th grade

EDIT: Y'all I mean 16 questions right on the AMC 10, I'm way too lazy to scroll and find the number of points lol
EDIT: Math Kangaroo: I forgot the score, but I got like 30th National

AMC 8 DHR
PhoenixMathClub   10
Hey y'all so I just started preparing for the 2026 AMC 8 and I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on what I should do so I can get DHR. I barely practice math competition and I just started to get serious this year so my scores might be bad so here it is:

5th Grade: 12
6th Grade: 16
6th Grade Summer/7th Grade: Mocking 20-24 on AMC 8 Tests

I saw many recommendations about buying AoPS books but not many about the number theory so I got the Introduction to Algebra, Introduction to Counting and Probability, and Introduction to Geometry Books. I was wondering what other suggestions that you would have for me to get better at AMC 8.

Padres vs Dodgers expected wins
ehz2701   0
Suppose the Padres have 6 pitchers of skill level $\{2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12\}$. The dodgers have 6 pitchers of skill level $\{1,3,5,7,9, 11\}$. When a Padres pitcher with skill level $a$ is against a Dodgers pitcher with skill level $b$, the probability that the Padres win that game is $\frac{a}{a+b}$. The Padres have already determined that they will start their pitchers in the increasing order of skill level. In what order should the dodgers start their pitchers to maximize their expected wins? Give your answer as a sequence of six integers.

***DISCLAIMER: (1) If you are a hitter, I know you are very vital and important to the game, and pitching does not determine everything. (2) Yes, there is no such thing as a one-all stat like skill level. ERA, WHIP, FIP, and many other stats govern just fine. WAR even. (3) I am NOT making a statement on whether the dodgers and padres pitching staff is better.

(a+sqrt(b)^p when a-sqrt(b) is actually larger than 1
ehz2701   0
We’ve all seen problems like what is the one’s place of $(\sqrt{2}+1)^{2025}$? (It’s 5 btw). In any such radical $a+\sqrt{b}$ for some integers $a,b$, the key is that $a-\sqrt{b} < 1$ such that $(a-\sqrt{b})^{p}$ is negligibly small. And adding this to $(a+\sqrt{b})^{p}$ squares away the square roots and cancels away the roots bits, leaving only integers behind. From this answer extraction is typically easy, perhaps a little module arithmetic is needed in combination with the binomial theorem.

Now, what if the conjugate $a-\sqrt{b}>1$? For example, what is the ones digit of $(3+\sqrt{2})^{2025}$? Is this feasible? answer according to wolfram alpha

9 OTIS vs. WOOT
blackbelt0205   7
Is OTIS or WOOT better? I know OTIS is self-paced, and I'm a little worried that I won't be able to do as much as work because I have a lot of other stuff going on in my life during the school year. WOOT, on the other hand, has weekly homework, which makes me have to do it. I can spend at least 20 hours a week on this, and at least 10 hours during competition season. Can you please give me your honest opinion on this? Thanks :yup:

Online Physics
RabtejKalra   6
Hello, I am a math enthusiast comfortable with algebra and basic calculus and wish to begin physics. Though many sources would recommend HRK, I do not learn well whatsoever with text books. Does anybody have a full online crash course to get a student to USAPhO qualification level within 6 to 9 months? Thank You.

IMO 2017 Problem 4
Amir Hossein   121
Source: IMO 2017, Day 2, P4
Let $R$ and $S$ be different points on a circle $\Omega$ such that $RS$ is not a diameter. Let $\ell$ be the tangent line to $\Omega$ at $R$. Point $T$ is such that $S$ is the midpoint of the line segment $RT$. Point $J$ is chosen on the shorter arc $RS$ of $\Omega$ so that the circumcircle $\Gamma$ of triangle $JST$ intersects $\ell$ at two distinct points. Let $A$ be the common point of $\Gamma$ and $\ell$ that is closer to $R$. Line $AJ$ meets $\Omega$ again at $K$. Prove that the line $KT$ is tangent to $\Gamma$.

Processing module python not working
Demetri   11
The following code doesn't work, because canvas isn't implemented for the processing module:
import processing
def setup():
    processing.size(200, 200)
def draw():
    processing.ellipse(100, 100, 50, 50)
    processing.noLoop()
processing.run()

I believe this is an easy fix, someone just forgot to add the line "Sk.canvas = outcanvas;"(or something similar) in the code for the pywindow, which would give an output.
