CONGRATULATIONS to all the competitors at this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)! The US Team took second place with 5 gold medals and 1 silver - we are proud to say that each member of the 2025 IMO team has participated in an AoPS WOOT (Worldwide Online Olympiad Training) class!

"As a parent, I'm deeply grateful to AoPS. Tiger has taken very few math courses outside of AoPS, except for a local Math Circle that doesn't focus on Olympiad math. AoPS has been one of the most important resources in his journey. Without AoPS, Tiger wouldn't be where he is today — especially considering he's grown up in a family with no STEM background at all."

I am new to AoPs, and I would just like to know about some information! This is my first post, and I am excited to meet many smart and aspiring math learners! I want some information about:
- How to use Latex
- About various math contests
- How to become better at math (quickly and effectively)
Anyways, I am happy to be here! Please give me advice on how to score better on math contests like AMC 8.

3 people are going to a hotel. The hotel manager says it costs 30 dollars. They each pay 10 dollars and stay in one room. Then, the hotel manager realizes that a room actually costs 25 dollars. So he sends the bellboy to their room. The bellboy, not knowing how to split a 5 dollar bill, gives them each 1 dollar and keeps 2 dollars. Each friend paid 9 dollars, and 9*3=27. 27 dollars plus the additional 2 dollars that the bellboy had gives 29 dollars. Where is the missing dollar?

1. (Found by nudinhtien) Let $a$ and $b$ be positive integers such that $ab + 1$ divides $a^{2} + b^{2}$. Show that $\frac {a^{2} + b^{2}}{ab + 1}$ is the square of an integer.

2. (Solved by nudinhtien) Prove that
$(a+b+c)(\frac{b}{b(a+b+c)+ac}+\frac{c}{c(a+b+c)+ab}+\frac{a}{a(a+b+c)+bc})-(\frac{a^2}{(b+c)^2}+\frac{b^2}{(a+c)^2}+\frac{c^2}{(a+b)^2}) \leq \frac{9}{4}$

3 (Solved by nudinhtien). Assume $a$, $b$, and $c$, are positive real numbers such that $a^2+b^2+c^2=abc$. Prove or disprove that $\frac{1}{a}+\frac{1}{b}+\frac{1}{c} \geq 1$.

4. (I didn't create this one, it was on an AMC exam I think. Credit to MAA) Let $T_1$ be a triangle with side lengths $2011, 2012,$ and $2013$. For $n \ge 1$, if $T_n = \triangle ABC$ and $D, E,$ and $F$ are the points of tangency of the incircle of $\triangle ABC$ to the sides $AB, BC$, and $AC,$ respectively, then $T_{n+1}$ is a triangle with side lengths $AD, BE,$ and $CF,$ if it exists. What is the perimeter of the last triangle in the sequence $( T_n )$?

5. Four six-sided fair dice were rolled. The numbers that appeared on the four dice were used to make the lengths of the sides of a quadrilateral, if possible. If they couldn't form the sides of a quadrilateral they were rolled again until they could. What is the expected number of rolls required?

Bonus for problem 5: What is the probability that if it can form a quadrilateral, the quadrilateral is cyclic.

The diagram below shows the circular face of a clock with radius $20$ cm and a circular disk with radius $10$ cm externally tangent to the clock face at $12$ o'clock. The disk has an arrow painted on it, initially pointing in the upward vertical direction. Let the disk roll clockwise around the clock face. At what point on the clock face will the disk be tangent when the arrow is next pointing in the upward vertical direction?

k a August Highlights and 2025 AoPS Online Class Information
jwelsh   0

— Doreen Dai, parent of IMO US Team Member Tiger Zhang

There is still time to enroll in our last wave of summer camps that start in August at the Virtual Campus, our video-based platform, for math and language arts! From Math Beasts Camp 6 (Prealgebra Prep) to AMC 10/12 Prep, you can find an informative 2-week camp before school starts. Plus, our math camps don’t have homework and cover cool enrichment topics like graph theory. Our language arts courses will build the foundation for next year’s challenges, such as Language Arts Triathlon for levels 5-6 and Academic Essay Writing for high school students.

Lastly, Fall is right around the corner! You can plan your Fall schedule now with classes at either AoPS Online, AoPS Academy Virtual Campus, or one of our AoPS Academies around the US. We’ve opened new Academy locations in San Mateo, CA, Pasadena, CA, Saratoga, CA, Johns Creek, GA, Northbrook, IL, and Upper West Side (NYC), New York.

k a August Highlights and 2025 AoPS Online Class Information
jwelsh   0

Our full course list for upcoming classes is below:
All classes run 7:30pm-8:45pm ET/4:30pm - 5:45pm PT unless otherwise noted.

Maintenance
shaayonsamanta   7
Is AoPS on maintenance right now?

AoPS keeps telling me that there's an "error with connecting to the server" and that they'll "try again in ten seconds."

Also, sometimes when I refresh, AoPS refuses to load. I have to wait a couple of seconds before re-refreshing and getting the actual website.
