I evened out the topic distribution better this time.
1.
Let G be the graph of x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = 1600, and P = (6, 8, 24). A line is drawn through P, and let the intersection points of that line and G be Q and R. Find the maximum possible value of (PQ)(PR).
2.
Some (not necessarily distinct) positive integers have a sum of 19. Find their maximum possible product.
3.
A right pentagonal prism consists of a regular pentagon base of area 200 and height 5. A random point inside the prism is chosen, and a plane with random angle that passes through that point slices through the prism. Find the expected value of the volume of the larger of the two pieces.
4.
A pirate can choose to swipe anywhere from 1 to 1000 grand from an enemy ship. However, if he steals n grand, he has a n/1700 chance of getting caught and thrown overboard. What is the optimal number of grand for the pirate to swipe?
5.
Each vertex of a regular nonagon is randomly labeled with either A or B. The probability that the nonagon can then be rotated such that all vertices labeled with B can move to locations where there originally was an A is m/n, where m and n are relatively prime. Find m + n.
6.
Find the value of sqrt(40200 + sqrt(40200 + sqrt(40200 + …
7.
Find the three-digit number whose cube ends in 069.
8.
All the three-digit numbers are listed in order in a row. Suppose that someone finds the lowest remaining number in the row, crosses it off, and proceeds to cross off every other remaining number until he reaches the end of the row, in which case he repeats this process. What is the last number standing?
9.
Let f(n) = k^n + k^(-n), where k is a constant. Given that f(8) = 2207, find the average of f(1), f(2), … , f(9) to the nearest integer.
10.
How many polynomials P(x) = x^5 + Ax^4 + Bx^3 + Cx^2 + Dx + E satisfy that A, B, C, D, and E are all integers from 0 to 3, inclusive, and that all real roots of P(x) can be expressed using a finite number of radicals?
11.
Blaire White, DanTDM, and Not-so-super Mario are in a 1000-day long who-can-be-the-most-foolish contest. At the start of day 1, Blaire, Dan, and Mario each start off with a foolishness percentage of 100%. Suppose that on day n mod 9, Blaire increases his foolishness percentage by n^2 + 30; on day n mod 10, Dan increases his foolishness percentage by (11 - n)^2 + n - 2; and on day n mod 11, Mario increases his foolishness percentage by 5(5 - n)^2 + 2. From day 1 to day 1000, inclusive, let a be how many days during the period the placings from first to last place is Dan/Blaire/Mario, suppose that b is defined by: at the end of the 1000 days, if Dan is the winner, then b = 10, if Blaire is the winner, then b = 20, and if Mario is the winner, then b = 30, and let c be the last three digits of the losing score. Find a + b + c.
12.
The expression (138x - 138) / (x^3 - ln(x) - 1) approaches what as x approaches 1?
13.
How many digits is 2^420?
14.
How many Pythagorean triples have a two-digit hypotenuse?
15.
The moon is given by the equation x^2 + y^2 + (z - 1000) ^ 2 = 40000. A cow jumps over the moon by traveling along the path of z = 1200 - nx^2, y = 0. The maximum value of n such that the cow can successfully jump over the moon without slamming into it is a/b, where a and b are relatively prime. Find a + b.
