Problem Series

Would it be possible to take the AMC 12 class and AIME class at the same time, or should you have completed the AMC 12 class before you begin the AIME class?

Some students have taken both problem series at once. The problem series classes are less intense than the subject classes because they don't have exams, so taking two problem series is probably a 5-8 hour time commitment per week for students who want to take them both.

I would recommend this to students who (a) have that much time that they want to commit and (b) are already fairly certain that they will make it to the AIME, but want to improve both their AMC 12 and AIME scores: 100-130 on the AMC 12 and 3-10 on the AIME (on average) -- if you fit into that category, it's a very reasonable combination of classes.

However, it should be said that the subject classes cover material more deeply, so students who wish to dedicate themselves to learning material most comprehensively over two or more years are advised to take subject courses when possible. They certainly help more for students who will one day make it to the USAMO partially because the exams require more thorough, longer thinking and more organized solution-writing.
