Newcomers to LaTeX - Help writing simple mathematics

The TeXer is where you try out writing mathematical stuff. But for those new to LaTeX you may need more help writing the code. There is help available on AoPWiki where you'll find a list of commands at LaTeX:Commands and symbols at LaTeX:Symbols.

You may also like to use this Equation Editor which will work out the commands for you which you can then copy and paste here. For example, if you click on the \int symbol it will put \int_{}^{ } in the box below. Then add a and b between the {} to get \int_{a}^{b}. You can see from the image it shows below that this is correct and then you can paste it here putting it between dollar signs to get \int_{a}^{b}.

After a while you will learn the code and not need the Equation Editor.

Help, confusion

I once accidentally revived a post that wasn't posted on for 3 years (!) and was informed that I shouldn't do that. But now, I need help with LaTeX but the help forum isn't posted on since 2005 or so. I'm just wondering if it's okay to receive help here.Help me!
