New dollar sign convention

Now the dollar signs for currencies can be made simpler on the board. Use a backslash to "escape" the dollar sign.

So

Code:
\$1,000

will generate $1,000

The \$ still works in the regular \LaTeX code as expected.

Great! It would be also nice to update the "odd number of dollar signs" error message accordingly (it still contains the recommendation to use $\$ $ for the currency sign)

I like it. My trial run on the test forum has drawn a couple of responses.

Maybe change the following message a little?

[quote]
You have an odd number of LaTeX tags $ in your document and BBCode is enabled. You might have forgotten to close a tag of a LaTeX formula, so please check your document. If you want to use the symbol $ to represent currency (dollars) either disable BBCode (not recommended) or
use the code $\$$ to create a image of the dollar sign (so that your post can be safely quoted afterwards).

Remember that it's best to use the Preview function so you can spot mistakes in your LaTeX syntax.

I missed this Smile You have a point, that message is no longer useful in its current form.

With BBCode disabled (this is a bad option because of the quoting problem, but if you post pure text and don't expect a mathematical discussion in the thread, you can use it too)

Dojo, use the [code tag to show code, don't disable BBCode. As a matter of fact in the very near future, the option of disabling BBCode won't be available anymore anyway.
