Do not put text between dollar signs. Put maths only between dollar signs So you would write
Code:
If $x^2=1$ then $x= \pm 1$
which comes out like this
If x^2=1 then x= \pm 1
Spaces are ignored between dollar signs as LaTeX knows how to space things so you don't need any.

To summarise: type words as usual and just mathematics between two dollar signs.

All commands in LaTeX start with a backslash, so a fraction command is \frac so you get \frac{x}{y^2}. See LaTeX:Commands

Hi! I was wondering few things.

First: What kind of a forum is this: phpbb or vBulletin? It seems to be phpbb.

Now you may ask why am I asking this Mr. Green Well I'm a moderator on my uni's forum and we have phpbb3 forum and we desperately need to implement LaTeX. If someone could point me in the right direction so I could say to my admis to implement it. The dolar sign convenction seems even better than [tex] or [latex] tags on other formus I've seen.

So if you could tell me where to get it and how to implement it (or some documents about it) I would really appreciate it!

Thanx in advance!!

This forum uses LatexRender and there's lots of discussion about it on the phpBB forum LaTeX support in phpBB3. Using dollar tags is covered in this post.
You will need LaTeX, ImageMagick and GhostScript installed on the server.
