How to Install & Use LaTeX

We are building a resource for students interested in installing and using LaTeX. Most professional mathematicians and scientists use LaTeX for their writing, and we highly recommend learning how to use it.

Click here to learn more about how to download, install, and use LaTeX on Windows machines. These pages also include some basic how-tos and a growing LaTeX guide. They also describe how to produce PDF documents with LaTeX and how to incorporate images into these PDF docs created with LaTeX. As you'll see, these LaTeX pages are very much a work in progress - please make suggestions here about what you'd like to see added or clarified.

There are lots of TeX distributions out there: check out http://www.tug.org/interest.html#free

If you join the TeX Users Group (which costs 45 dollars for students), they'll send you a copy of their "TeX Live" CD. You can also buy it for 30 dollars, and I think it comes with some (expensive) TeX books (like The LaTeX Companion).

Please note -- this thread is not the place to post LaTeX questions nor the place to test LaTeX. Start a new topic in this forum if you have a question. Use the Test Forum or the TeXer if you want to experiement with LaTeX.
