AoPSWiki PageDay #2 to be held!
Mark your calendars for Nov 4-5, er, I mean, January 18-19!

This is the second page day of the AoPSWiki. To read the rules and such, click here for the first PageDay. The times will be from 12:00 AM Jan. 18 EST - 12:00 AM Jan. 20 EST. The contributions will be reviewed and judged on the 20th.

This time however, our goal is quite different: to improve pages, not to create new ones. Some of you may be familiar with the A:AOTD (Article of the Day) system on the AoPSWiki. The system had to be put temporarily on hiatus because not enough well-written articles were being written.

How does one write a good article? The very best article on the AoPSWiki is probably set. Notice how it has categories at the bottom. Adding a category to an article is simple. One merely types

Code:

[[Category:CATEGORYNAME]]

replacing CATEGORYNAME with the name of the category.

Some common categories are:
- Category:Definition
- Category:Books
- Category:Theorems
- Category:Axioms
- Category:Elementary algebra
- Category:Set theory
- Category:Field theory
- Category:Geometry
etc.
For example, a theorem in geometry would have the categories theorems and geometry.

Also, remember to provide example problems. It is recommended you follow the standard format, which is inserting this at the end of the article:

Quote:
{{subst:exampleprob
| intro = INSERT INTRODUCTORY PROBLEM HERE
| inter = INSERT INTERMEDIATE PROBLEM HERE
| oly = INSERT OLYMPIAD-LEVEL PROBLEM HERE
| introsource = INSERT ARTICLE WITH INTRODUCTORY PROBLEM HERE
| intersource = INSERT ARTICLE WITH INTERMEDIATE PROBLEM HERE
| olysource = INSERT ARTICLE WITH OLYMPIAD-LEVEL PROBLEM HERE
}}

Replacing the capitalized text with the specified information.

How do you find the articles to the problems? You can find AMC Problems and Solutions organized by year on the wiki, and also IMO Problems and Solutions. Generally, AMC 10/12 and #1 on AIME are introductory-level, USAMO and other national Olympiads are Olympiad-level.

Note also that it has External Links and See Also sections at the bottom, which are encouraged.

Also, wikilinks (that is, putting double brackets
Code:

[[TEXT TO LINK TO HERE]]

around words with articles is encouraged. Reading the entirety of Help:Text formatting before you start is also a good idea.

Now, addressing this:

Er, sorry?

One last thing: On naming sections and articles. Please read A:NAME thoroughly before you begin.

Just a reminder: AoPSWiki PageDay 2 starts tomorrow. Sorry to all the extraordinary contributors that have edited over the past few days; only your contributions on the specified days counts.
