I believe the High School Basics forum is the forum for that.

Are proofs of basic things ok? Would they go in another forum if they are harder?
Depends how basic. If you are discussing the proof of the pythagorean theorem or the quadratic formula, sure, since those are standard, although often untaught, components of middle school math. There are also some relatively trivial proofs for MATHCOUNTS type things (e.g., mods), which can be placed in the MATHCOUNTS forum, but avoid doing anything beyond trivial there as MATHCOUNTS really isn't a proof based competition.

What's so bad about reviving old topics?

It iritates people...

No it doesn't. If you bring up a good point or want to share something valid, then it is just fine. Just don't spam it all up.

Well, the basic rule is that do not revive old topics ( for problems ) unless you think the other person is wrong and you have a different solution, or you have a VERY good point. If someone revives a topic in a spammy way, just do not post in it or even LOOK at it, just let the old topic die.

Well, I figured that out the hard way Sad but at least I learned it and never forgot it Mr. Green

You shouldn't make too much a big deal about reviving- It's just AOPS ettiquette.

I seriously think that this forum is becoming a revival/spam forum.
I saw 3 revivals in two days. You guys seriously need to pay attention to this.

Of course, revivals aren't the only spam. I think 95% of spam is from forum's that aren't a month old.

And we do. Wink You probably haven't noticed, but every single revival has been taken care of within a few hours. And please note that it doesn't help to point the fact that it is a revival in a thread. If it isn't locked or otherwise taken care of within 24 hours, then you can always PM a moderator.

Or we can set x,y,z as any three negative numbers, which will always beat your 2,2,2 Wink
