Welcome

Welcome to the Canada/USA Mathcamp subforum. This is a forum for all things Mathcamp: questions (for MC alumni or staff) from prospective students or parents, discussions among alumni, etc.

I'm David Savitt, the deputy director of Mathcamp; in my day job, I'm a postdoctoral researcher at McGill University, specializing in number theory and arithmetic algebraic geometry. A second moderator will likely be added later this week.

For now, I should mention that the Mathcamp 2005 qualifying quiz and online application should go live by the end of this week. Keep your eyes on the Mathcamp website, http://www.mathcamp.org , for further details.

Thanks for moderating the forum. I've got a guy on my math team too young for MathCamp this year (he is applying to MathPath), but I have heard a lot of great things about MathCamp and am encouraging him to think about MathCamp for the future.

I attended Mathcamp as a guest speaker in 2004. When I first arrived, one of the students I knew from speaking at his high school told me, 'Mathcamp makes the rest of the school year look so bad. Even the good stuff looks bad.' From what I saw while there, I can understand his sentiment.

Those of you who are curious about Mathcamp should ask your questions in this forum - in addition to the administrators of the camp, our site has dozens and dozens of Mathcamp alums who can answer your questions.

Are you coming back again this year?

Yes, he is. Check the guest speakers list for 2005 at http://mathcamp.org/academic.php

You should remove the last period from the link or it won't work.

If you are a student and you are in the area where Mathcamp is taking place, it is usually possible to visit Mathcamp for one or two days. If that's what you are interested in, you can email mc-info@mathcamp.org with your request.

If you mean, "Can I come to Mathcamp if I live in Vietnam?", the answer is yes. There were quite a few international students last year.
