If I get accepted to both Stuyvesant and Bronx Science.
What school should I go to ?

I am an incoming 9th Grade student who recently moved to New York City. I have contemplated getting into either Stuy or Science.Since I've been told that I'd be happier at BX Science , it's my choice for now. I plan on at least qualifying for the USAMO with a high index. Which school do you think would be best for me .

I went to Bronx Science, and I have a rough idea of how Stuyvesant's math team works. The contest math preparation at Bronx Science is nowhere near as extensive as Stuyvesant's, so if that's your main priority, Stuyvesant is a better choice.

It really comes down to where you live that determines which school you go to. If you live in Bronx, then it would be more convenient to go to Bronx Sci. If you live in lets say Queens, it really doesn't matter because the commute is the same. Also, from my experience, Stuy has a better Math team. If you have any questions about Stuy in general feel free to ask me. Smile (I'm a sophomore in Stuy)

Oh and, just to tell you, you can only get accepted into one. The one you rank first.

First, this belongs on the NYC board rather than Round Table.

Second, it's impossible to know which school is best for you without more information. My understanding is that by most objective measures, Stuy is academically "better" than Bronx Science, but certainly other factors can matter. In particular, you mentioned that you've been told that you'd be happier at Bronx (but you didn't say why).

FYI, qualifying for USAMO is very rare at Bronx. So if you go to Bronx and qualify, you'll probably be the best math student there.

@Forte, taking public transit from Queens to either school is sure to be hell, but wouldn't Bronx be a lot worse?

Yes I agree with you. The commute to both is rather time consuming. Ignore what I said about Bronx being better in terms of commute.
