Gap year?, Math project for college application?

Hi,
I'm attending a school based on the ISC curriculum(Indian system) in Dubai and Im in my final year which ends in March. I most probably want to pursue maths(applied) in college. I scored an 85/100 in math last term and and I normally maintain a 90+ in computers. My marks as such havent been commendable( due to a lack of studying uptil now but im hoping my marks in the next next few sets of exams will overshadow my past record) I scored a 1900 in my SAT which is horrible I will be taking them again and I'm aiming for a 2200.
I had a few doubts which I wanted to clear:-
1. Should I take a gap year?( I really want to pursue maths in college but I haven't really done much to prove my capabilities)
2. What math programs can I take during a gap year ( The toughest possible as being in an Indian system the highest level of maths is taught)
3. What kind of a project or research can I do to prove the same?
4. What job opportunities are there in the feild of mathematics during a gap year ( I worked in a software company the previous summer where i wrote a couple of codes and learnt a few languages such as javascript, HTML, AJAX and found rather boring)
5. How can I improve my horrible chances of getting into a good college? (I know its a bit late but I would really appreciate any kind of help)

Have you taken Linear Algebra and/or single variable calculus? Perhaps you could find a nearby proffessor to do research with.
