AIME score--College?
What school would a good AIME score help?

Any school that knows what it is, so schools with a strong math / science program. It won't help you get into a liberal arts school at all. I will mention that MIT goes out of its way to specifically ask for AMC / AIME scores.

I believe Yale and Stanford do as well.

Stanford does not, unless they added something for it when they changed over to common app. But they definitely know what it is, and will like to see high scores.
Are you sure it won't help at a liberal arts college? They like people who are good at math, too.

I think Stanford has a section that asks for some number of additional standardized test scores of your choice, and they list the AMC as an example of a standardized test. I'm sure, by that broad definition, the AIME could be used as a standardized test, as well.
If you're ever worried that someone won't understand what the AIME is, you can always write it out, and all of a sudden it sounds more impressive. If this is on your resume and you did particularly well on it, you can add statistics / a brief explanation of what it is.

That's pretty much what I did with the essays- I used the "Tell us about yourself" prompt to explain what my superlatives meant.
In practice, it didn't matter for me. I was in before they even looked at that part of the application.

At the time, UC Berkeley admitted half its class based purely on grades and test scores.

Yeah, I was hoping something to do with math, someplace where being successful in math contests (AMC) would help.
What about USAMTS?
I know Mathcounts doesn't really help: its Jr. HIgh

MIT, Caltech, and Brown were the schools I applied to that specifically asked for AMC scores.
