I took Pre-Algebra in 6th, Algebra in 7th, and Geometry in 8th. I could've been two grades ahead (I was up to geometry in 5th grade.)

It's ok, compared to you guys, my school is almost laughable.

7th-pre-algebra
8th-algebra I

For all you taking geometry during 8th grade, you're all a grade ahead of me. Razz

I had an interesting experience with my math classes:

Mansfield Middle School, CT: They had a cooperative program with JHU CTY's distance program (ie, they would pay for some people to substitute that for a school class).

6th grade: H Algebra II and H Geometry

Shrewsbury Middle School, MA: Didn't want to accommodate my math requests. Looking back, this was a good thing, because I could do homework for other classes in math class, while focusing my math efforts on learning math on my own and getting into contest math.

7th grade: Pre-Algebra
8th grade: H Algebra I

Shrewsbury High School, MA: Automatically placed me in 9th grade. I personally raised hell until they let me place ahead for 10th grade. I didn't involve my parents, but I had to take 2 placement exams, make 2 petitions, and argue my case to the department head 3 times.

9th grade: H Geometry
10th grade: AP Calculus

I might sound old saying this, but most of you guys have it easy.

If I had it my way, I probably would have taken calc bc by 10th. And I would've needed to twist some arms, literally.

Before 5th grade, there were no math placements, just one class per grade.

5th grade: 5th grade uppers math (yes, they have just two levels, uppers and lowers)
6th grade: 8th grade Algebra I
7th grade: 8th grade Geometry Honors
8th grade: Algebra II/Trig Honors (through an online indep. study class)
9th grade: Nothing (I skipped ninth grade!)
10th grade: (Currently) Taking PreCalc IV Honors for Semester 1 (got to jump a few levels ahead, yay for my school), and BC Calculus I for Semester 2

If I come into the top in PreCalc IV for the whole school, I'd be able to take the accelerated BC Calc I/II version for one semester, then in junior year, I can take BC II/III for first semester and electives for the rest of high school. Smile
