If you drill a 1 inch diameter hole in a 2" diameter sphere, what is the volume of what is left?

This probably belongs in the Calculus forum.

Suppose the hole is drilled vertically. What is the area of a typical horizontal slice? The answer should depend on where the slice is.

Hi Jmerry:
Thanks for writing.
The question is about a sphere. If a one inch hole is drilled into a two inch sphere what is the volume that is left. There is no sliceing, just a drill point that does not go all the way through.
