New Arts & Sciences Forums!

Mathematics and problem solving has a wide range of applications. For discussion of these, we have created a set of forums for discussion of various sciences and arts. Specifically, we now have a forum for each of the following topics:

Biology
Chemistry
Computer Science and Informatics
Physics
Economics
Graphical Design
Music & Art

Please note that the Music & Art forum is intended for the musicians and artists among us to discuss techniques and their work. If you want to talk about your favorite band, please do it in Games & Fun Factory.

Thank you! This really helps a lot since now I don't have to sift through "Other US Contests & Programs" or "International Contests & Programs" just to find the threads about computer science and informatics. I hope that these new forums will get a lot of use. Also, the range of topics in the forums outside of the art & sciences forums should become more focused. Great job! Smile

Great idea.

I assume each level will be open to questions of all levels?

I'm going to be starting university this september, so will college level chem/bio/physics questions be ok?

Or is it geared more towards the middle school/high school area?

Either way, good stuff.

For now all levels. It would be nice if the author of the thread would specify which level is the topic addressing in the subject.

While we are talking about new forums, I think an area for formulas would be good. It could be moderated by someone who would make stickys with all the formulas for each subject (Algebra, Geometry, Trig, etc.) that had been posted. Or do we already have an area like that? I couldn't find one.

There is no need for such an area for "pre-olympiad" since all the forumulaes can be easily googled. In plus there are already such stickies in the high-school forums. In the Olympiad and College forums there is, under each subject, a "Theorems and Formulaes" subforum.

This is excellent news, rrusczyk! AoPs is definitely growing. Smile Who knows, maybe someday AoPS will be the largest (and best) online intellectual community!

The moderators of those forums of course Mr. Green
If you are asking who will they be, probably we'll gather some of the current mods, and maybe appoint one or two new ones from the old members of the site. Although this is not of big importance at this very moment.

Does discussion in the Chemistry forum have to be math-related, or can we go into more theoretical, non-mathematical discussion? Basically, is it meant to be about Chemistry in its own right, or Chemistry insofar as it relates to Mathematics?
