Students participating
in either the Math
Jams or our online
classes should be aware of the following aspects of our Virtual Classroom:
- The Classroom is moderated,
which means that any comment entered by a student will go to the instructors
rather than the entire room. The instructors will choose which student comments
are shared with the entire classroom.
- The Classroom is transcripted,
which means that students will be able to review the discussion in the class
at their own pace after class. The transcripts for Math
Jams are available to registered Community members here,
and the transcripts for online classes are accessible here
(provided you are enrolled in the class). Transcripts will generally be available
within one day of the class. Math
Jams transcripts will typically be available for two
to six weeks, while online class transcripts will be available until the course
ends.
- We will not always be
able to answer all the students' questions during class. Please use
the forum for follow-up questions, where students can have their questions
answered by other students as well as by instructors.
- Make your comments clear
and thorough. When asked for the answer to a problem, give both the answer
and justification for your answer. Instructors will generally try to choose
well-written comments to share with the class.
- Don't break up your comments
into several different posts. The instructors are receiving many comments
from many students at once; if you break a comment into three or four different
posts, it will be difficult for the instructor to put your thoughts together
and nearly impossible to share them with the class.
- For legal reasons, students
are not able to private message each other via our Virtual Classroom.
