  • The 2007 AIME I and 2007 AIME II were held for high scorers on the AMC competitions.
  • State MATHCOUNTS events are held across the United States.

  • The Princeton University Mathematics Competition (PUMaC) occurred, and was won by Team Carolina, which included AoPS members jb05, MysticTerminator, Iversonfan2007, and mysmartmouth.

  • The PoincarĂ© conjecture was solved by Russian mathematician Grigory Perelman, who then declined the Fields Medal.

July 2006

  • The International Mathematical Olympiad took place in Slovenia. Of the six members of the U.S. team, 2 were awarded gold medals, and 4 were awarded silver medals. While team results are unofficial, the Chinese team had the highest scoring students, with the U.S. team finishing fifth. 2006 IMO Homepage
