Carnegie Mellon University

From AoPSWiki

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was originally founded (as Carnegie Institute of Technology) in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie, and in the 1960s merged with the Mellon Institute founded by Andrew Mellon.

CMU is particularly known for its programs in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, fine arts, and business.

Due to Andrew Carnegie's heritage, CMU has a distinctive Scottish tradition. CMU's sports teams are known as the Tartans, and its school colors are plaid. Members of the CMU marching band wear kilts while performing. The university is one of the very few places in the United States where one can major in bagpiping.
