May is an exciting month! National MATHCOUNTS is the second week of May in Washington D.C. and our Founder, Richard Rusczyk will be presenting a seminar, Preparing Strong Math Students for College and Careers, on May 11th.

Are you interested in working towards MATHCOUNTS and don’t know where to start? We have you covered! If you have taken Prealgebra, then you are ready for MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Basics. Already aiming for State or National MATHCOUNTS and harder AMC 8 problems? Then our MATHCOUNTS/AMC 8 Advanced course is for you.

Summer camps are starting next month at the Virtual Campus in math and language arts that are 2 - to 4 - weeks in duration. Spaces are still available - don’t miss your chance to have an enriching summer experience. There are middle and high school competition math camps as well as Math Beasts camps that review key topics coupled with fun explorations covering areas such as graph theory (Math Beasts Camp 6), cryptography (Math Beasts Camp 7-8), and topology (Math Beasts Camp 8-9)!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the following upcoming events:
[list][*]May 9th, 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET, Casework 2: Overwhelming Evidence — A Text Adventure, a game where participants will work together to navigate the map, solve puzzles, and win! All are welcome.

EGMO (geo) Radical Center Question
gulab_jamun   7
N 40 minutes ago by happypi31415
For this theorem, Evan says that the power of point $P$ with respect to $\omega_1$ is greater than 0 if $P$ lies between $A$ and $B$. (I've underlined it). But, I'm a little confused as I thought the power was $OP^2 - r^2$ and since $P$ is inside the circle, wouldn't the power be negative since $OP < r$?

Let $\triangle ABC$ be an acute scalene triangle with circumcircle $\omega$. The tangents to $\omega$ at $B$ and $C$ intersect at $T$. Let $X$ and $Y$ be the projections of $T$ onto lines $AB$ and $AC$, respectively. Suppose $BT=CT=16$, $BC=22$, and $TX^2+TY^2+XY^2=1143$. Find $XY^2$.

k 42nd Mock Mathcounts!

Okay, so maybe it's not exactly the 42nd, but you get the point.

...How am I supposed to start this? 5849206328x, Temperal, and I decided to make a full Mock Mathcounts, with sprint, target, team, and masters. We're still debating on whether or not to include countdown. As in the real Mathcounts tests, you all will get in teams of four and first take the sprint and target individually. After everyone on your team has taken the sprint and target, your team captain will private message either me, Temperal, abacadaea, or 5849206328x and your team will be allowed to meet and take the team round. We're still deciding on how qualification for Master's Round will work, as that depends on whether we'll have countdown. Once we've reached a decision, we'll state it in this thread.

As we're still working out the details of how we'll administer the contest, and making sure all of our problems are clear and have no mistakes, we will probably have signups open for about a week.

We realize that there are a lot of other mock tests out in the forums right now. However, we've spent a lot of time reviewing these problems and have made sure that they are well written, clear, at a sufficient difficulty level, and actually involve you to be creative.

5849206328x wrote the sprint and target, I wrote the team, and Temperal wrote the Master's Round. I guess abacadaea is just a grader :P.

To finish this off, there might be one or two things that we'll change sometime in the next week. If we do, one of us will post it in this thread.
